2. Identify some empirical impacts of applied linguistics in your life.
Please answer the questions in your own sentences, and avoid a direct copy and paste of ideas from outside sources!
Jawaban 1 :
1.
Applied linguistic is concerned with problem solving through social problem
involving the language. The problems of applied linguistic concerned about; how
the language is obtained? How can we learn the language? How can we develop the
language to be better? How can we improve the practice of translator or
interpreters? And many other problems that occurs in reality . However, it is
difficult to define what is applied linguistic exactly.
2. There are some empirical impacts that happened in my life due to applied
linguistic. Unconsciously, applied linguistic is exist in our daily live. For the
example, it exists when the students acquiring a new language from the teacher.
It happened when the teacher teaches the students, then the students develop
their new language ability which acquired from the teacher. the problem
happened in teaching activity, developing a new language skill, a social
problem, can be solved with applied linguistic.
Jawaban 2:
1. Applied Linguistics is a
field of study that concerned to solve problems related to language in real
world. It means that AL exists to suggest solutions. In carrying duties,
Al collaborates with other disciplines such as education, psychology,
sociology, anthropology, etc.
2. AL actually gives several impacts in my profession.
The explanations are presented in the following descriptions.
a. Impact on language teaching
AL has changed my intentions of how I teach my students. Relates to this, for
example I pay more attention to students' pronunciation. I also try to
apply appropriate approach/method in any learning activities in order
to achieve the objectives.
b. Impact on language testing
Here, I carry out different types of tests such as oral examinations, gap-fill
tests, multiple choice test, to measure different types of language
ability.
c. Impact on specific purpose
I help my students about spoken language used in presenting the result of study
in front of class.
Jawaban 3:
Based
on the theoretical and empirical explanation conveyed, applied linguistics
basically deals with the entire language practices on various particular
issues/ problems. Here, we may no longer have a first look and analysis on how
someone acquires the target language as a foreign and/ second language related
to language's skills and components only, but incorporating other perspectives
such as psychology, social studies, and so on the whole from which the issues/
problems take place and need solving. Then related to empirical impacts of
applied linguistics, this study surely facilitates the clinical solution over
the linguistic problems so as the language learners can learn and manipulate
that language in comprehensible and acceptable context without leaving senses
of unexpectation in use.
Jawaban 4:
1.Based on my understanding.Applied linguistics is the branch of linguistics. The main purpose of it is to overcome the problems related with language ,viewing and correcting in it.The sub-disciplines that applied linguistics take an interest ,such as speech pathology and communication practice obviously take the spoken language as the primary object and the written language comes next as the secondary object. My state going stronger ,when I know that the applied linguistics concern in increasing the human's understanding with the language's role in their affair / sociaty.Affair/sociaty means the interaction among humans, and the majority of the interactions are in form of spoken language.
2.Applied linguistics help me to overcome some problems in my teaching process. For example why my students affraid to speak up and deliver their opinion during the class, why they make the grammatical mistakes when they try to make sentence in English. The important thing is, I able to choose the suit approach and method in my teaching process due to my student's characteristic.
Jawaban 5:
Applied
linguistics is an interdisciplinary field which identifies, investigates, and
offers solutions to language-related real-life problems. Some of the academic
fields related to applied linguistics are education, psychology, communication
research, anthropology, and sociology.
Jawaban 6:
1. As I comprehend from the video, Applied
linguistics is a study of language; how it is used and learned, and what
problems that may rise from the language usage in community. Applied Linguistics
offers solutions to the language practices in order to solve problems in real
life situation.
2. Based on my experience as an English teacher in a vocational school majoring
in chemical analyst that requires the teaching aims be relevant with the major,
I found some impacts of applied linguistics in my life. One of them is the
specific (or unique if I may say) vocabulary in chemistry;
I found out there are quite many chemistry jargons that totally mean different
with social life. For example, in chemistry, 'solution' is a mixture of two or
more substances, but in social life, 'solution' means a process of solving
problems. Another example is, I have to be carefully pay attention on using
verbs like 'shake', 'stir', 'mix' because for me (I don't have any chemistry
background) they all have almost the same result but different action. While in
laboratory, each reagent and determination has its own typical action to
process. Next other example is in the word of 'determination'. In chemistry,
determination means an action to determine the properties of concentration.
While in conversation, determination means something else.
These differences are so much interesting to go deeper. The better
understanding I have to these differences, the better language teaching I can
deliver to students. But to be honest, I took me years to collect and
comprehend the differences. It is funny to hear the joke of one of my students
to ask 'sodium chloride' that refers to 'salt' in meatball seller.

1.
In my opinion, the notion “applied” means; to utilize or to use something on
purpose. In the context of learning a language “Applied” means to put a
language into a practical use. Hence, linguistics is the study of language as a
whole. It can be inferred that, Applied Linguistics is a science that applies
research results in the field of linguistics for practical purposes, which aims
to solve practical problems related to language. In short, linguistics
functions as a tool to be applied. For example: in language teaching,
linguistics utilizes as a tool to teach language so that the applied knowledge
will be further improved.
2. Applied Linguistics has had certain impacts for human beings, especially for
those who decided to study more about language and work as a teacher of a
certain language. I grew up in Jakarta in which I spoke more bahasa Indonesia
than I was in Yogyakarta. I knew some Javanese words because my parents are
Javanese. When my family and I moved to Yogyakarta, I had to put my schemata of
Javanese words into practice. When I talked to my friends, I tried hard to use
Javanese to be able to mingle them. However, I was reluctant to speak Javanese
to older people. In Javanese language, there are many types of language, such
as Krama Inggil. It is used to communicate for older people or someone who must
be looked up to. I was afraid my Javanese language was not properly used when I
gave my ideas or statements. In this experience, Javanese language played a crucial
role as a tool to socialize and adapt culture.
Furthermore, Applied Linguistics was essential when I was an undergraduate
student
since some areas of it had to be mastered such as psycholinguistics. In this area, I learned how the study of language was related to psychological aspects in linguistic factor. Thus, the insight that I grasped, especially in the foreign language accusation field, applied in the real situation when I work as a teacher at school. Beside, the knowledge is essential for my growth to be a mother of a daughter in terms of teaching language. I decided to introduce English when my daughter was able to communicate in Bahasa Indonesia. Thank you very much for the opportunity ,Sir.

Applied linguistics is a branch of linguistics which can be used in dealing
with real world problems related to language, it is concerned to improve or
solve the real-life problem, it also studies a language problem with a view to
correcting it. Applied linguistics can be combined with other field of
knowledge to solve real world problem such as education, sociology, computer
etc.
2. Some impacts of applied linguistics in our lives, for example, in learning English when I was at senior high school, the English teacher taught me how to pronounce vocabulary by listening to the sound of speakers delivered by native speakers. Or we listen to songs in English. This is an experience in learning language in relation to applied linguistics.
